fletcher fawcett junior from western canada here. i just joined this site today because it is cool, and because it is a good place to start with my own personal brand of spirituality. you see, i totally agree with everything on the joy of satan home page about the darkness being necessary for light to be visible, and that the baphomet image is parallel to vishnu, and all the other things, too, the site is very well researched. i have been studying comparitive religion in my own time for years, including the different non christian sects, such as wiccan, and also the mythology of many different lands, and the religions they had when they were pagan. i see parallels between satan and many other pagan gods throughout europe and asia. just recently i found out about veles. veles is a god of cattle of the pagan Slavs. he had a horned head, but a human body. cernunnos, tammuz, bel.....even pan, are all half-man, half horned or antlered. also the darkness is the female aspect of our selves, the subconscious, the intuition. patricarchal, monotheistic religions such as christianity and islam attempt to wipe out the female, intuitive, subconscious side of their adherents by inspiring the fear of an all-seeing, male, being, represented as light, or 'the son of light.' in my research i have found that both of the aforementioned religions are offshoots of zoroastrianism. zoroastrianism, which still has many believers in bombay, india, asserts the existence of two gods: ormazd, the 'bringer of light', and ahriman,'the darkness'. ahriman is defeated by ormazd in the end, as is the 'beast' defeated by the 'son of light' in revelations. islam holds a similiar parallel. the one thing they all have in common is this: women occupy the lowest echelon of their societies, with few rights, ( i have seen a photo of a mutilated Muslim afghani woman in national geographic whose nose was cut off her face for allegedly cheating on her 70 year old husband, she was only 14), and also they are perpetrators of terrible crimes against the environment, as the united states, whose government and social systems is bound up in the puritanical teachings of the religion brought by the quakers in the 1700s, has the most polluted land and skies on this earth. my point is, it is good to explore your dark side as well as your light side, for that is the only way to be a fully integrated human be-ing. everyone has male and female, active and passive aspects, and that is why people like myself, and i am sure many of you fellow free-thinkers who persuse this website, are distinctly uncomfortable with the concept of worshipping an omnipotent male god who sees women as just an accesory to men. hence my own conversion, several years ago, to full time paganism and away from the religion of the false gods and deluded prophets, which had its origins in judaism, which in turn begin with zoroastrianism.
as the founder of the temple of set has asserted, in one of his writings: satan is not merely a hebrew fiend.
i agree. satan is a being with many names, and is far older than humanity itself. i call it cernunnos, some may call it set.
but all in all, its time to gain worshippers has returned once more, and let us raise our glasses in a toast, because:
the dark side has awaken!
sincerely,
and i thank you for your patience in reading this,
