government shut down

Apparently in california time at 9 pm the government officially shut down because negotiations could not be met in congress and 800,000 people are now out of work. Im assuming they mean politicians national parks and parks in general will be shut down. The 800,000 people will be asked to stay home without pay in one week if something will not be agreed upon
