What is the secret of egyptian mummies? why they used to keep dead bodies as in mummies? Is there any sermon written about it?

This is something that's been on my mind lately too. There must have been a good reason though, because the ancient Aryans who lived in China used to mummify their dead too, and the Egyptians were descended from them.
