Sorry if I ramble with this post because I don't have a lot of knowledge on the subject myself, but please read even if it sounds like I am all over the place a little. This is a really important subject for us Satanists to finally confront. And the Satanic understanding of it isn't so clear cut at this point.

I want to explore the subject of the ego a little deeper now and understand it better, I know when it comes to spirituality there is a lot of talk about the ego, especially by the RHP and we tend to disagree with what they say. But it's way way way too simplistic to just say Ego is good or Ego is bad.

I have noticed something, when people talk about the Ego, for instance describing an "Egotistical" person they lump many things together.

For example a person who isn't in the least concerned about appearing good in front of other people or in public, but who is selfish and does what benefits them and doesn't consider others, would be described as Egotistical. (Aries emphasis)

Additionally, another person who perhaps isn't so selfish and insensitive to others, may on the other hand be very narcissistic and like to show off and impress others and think they are something very special. This person would also be described as Egotistical. (Leo emphasis) Even though it's a completely different thing from the above we use the same term to describe both.

Also we all know the feeling of wanting to impress or look good in front of other people or be "cool" or sometimes shock other people. Sometimes, less commonly though people even overemphasize their "negative" traits such as making out they are more mean and cruel than they actually are, because the need for recognition is that strong.

Is this aspect of Ego good for the self? Because the way I see it if you are someone who thrives on others looking upon you a certain way, you can then be moved very easily by the criticism of others or being told something you don't want to hear and consequently you can never be and do exactly what you want.

Just ask yourself if nobody knew I was doing this, would I still be doing it?

Share your knowledge, opinions, experience etc. And I will reply to as many of you as time allows.

One can have any whatever ego one want to display, and whatever they want to do, Be it display of strong and cold, cruelty, perfect in their own senses and on and on, However it is important not to let ones ego Bother or Intrude upon others,Nor Implying their own ego on others,Going on a Righteous crusade to convert and whatsoever will cause severe damage and fuck up, if one wants to Intrude upon others Ego,Freedom then have at least good reason to do so,If not Then Responsibility for the Responsible and So Individuals will make neccessary decisions to sort it out and so forth.Responsibility for the Responsible

My mother always called me an egoist (and an ungrateful child :p) because supposedly I never 'appreciate' the things they've given to me. I don't think I need to mention how stupid and unfair her accusation of me is, but because I'm so awesome and always an anarchist I used 'Egoista' as my username as an artist haha xD
Well, personally I think a person who's an egoist is someone who cares only for himself and no one else. For example if someone (I'll use your examples) doesn't look good in his appearance but he doesn't affect others with that decision of his, then he's not an egoist. Now, if he smelled bad and affected others... um, then I'd just call him dirty, not an egoist. :p
Now, people who want to make a good appearance to others is completely normal. I believe we've all tried/done this in the past or are still doing it... Maybe most of us that are not so secure with ourselves and need a bit more rewarding or compliments. :)I think if someone tries to look good to others then he's in need of something he's missing and he maybe wants to show that thing to them... (oh man, this is getting too deep O: )
So, I believe egoistic people are the ones who take advantage of others and benefit from them but also hurting them somehow.
But as far as 'Ego' goes, I support Ego, and I believe having a strong Ego is a really good thing. It is self-confidence, self-assurance, you will not need anyone's rewarding or words of sympathy, you will be strong and you will stand on your own feet and even fly with your own wings. :)It is good to have a strong Ego, but it is not the same with being egoistic.
If you have a strong Ego, you are a strong person because you believe in yourself, no matter what someone may say (this is good, when you don't care of others opinions if you are satisfied with yourself -and do not hurt yourself) but if you are egoistic, you are maybe rather weak and try to feed off the others' talents or connections or anything else you may need from them or be missing from yourself.
And 'Ego' reminds me of the song "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5. It is a nice, positive song, and at some point he says "You say I'm a kid, my Ego is big, I don't give a shit" and I think "Fuck yeah, that's how someone with a strong Ego has to be!". :D I actually want to have a strong Ego and strive for this. :)

Here is something I wrote on the subject. Your ego is your consciousness. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JoSNewsletter/message/333  The death of the ego as enlightenment as part of this process is corrupted. The
ancients stated the death of the old consciousness [ego] is when the serpent
raises rebirthing you into the super ego or consciousness. The ancient texts
stated this but the death of the old consciouness [ego] as the process of the
birth of super consciousness [ego] is left out of many texts and books. Your ego
is your individual consciousness [psyche] hence its you and its connected to the
sol-ar principal for a reason.

You can see this in the beheading motif's as mentioned before. Ganesha has an
elephant head for this reason as Siva's trident [symbol of cutting aspect of the
power rising] beheads and kills him. Siva then brings him back to life [rebirth]
by fixing an elephant head to his body. The elephant is the symbol of the root
charka where the kundalini energy sits. Obviously the elephant head is the
symbol of his rebirth by raising the serpent and the superconscious that comes
with it. We also come back to the fact Siva is another alias of Satan.

The process is purification and transformation of the ego [psyche] to its pure
state not wiping it out and becoming a borg drone like the enemy pushes. When
people today cry about egoism they are actually crying about weak ego's with
numerous pathologies [karma's] that manifest in such condition.

They repeat the enemy lie of the ego as the problem in itself. Not the state of
the ego as the issue.

There is nothing wrong with having a healthy ego and expressing it. It has been proven statistically by psychologists and other individuals that those who think having an ego is an issue or have had problems in healthily expressing there own are commonly more upset and live more problematic lives.

Just like having desires. Healthily expressing yourself and attaining your desires actually improves health, your lives, mentalilty, and your outlook. In short, satisfying and expressing  yourself is goodfor you.
