Cupid ?

Is cupid in roman mythology just an allegory or is he really a living god ?

Sometimes I have thought that he could be the same as the Egyptian god Horus, the ancient Greek name for Cupid is Eros and as the two have many similar symbolisms: directly linked to Astarte, symbolizing the union of the ida and the pingala in the pineal gland, the two are represented as children, but is only a guess and I am not sure.
What I am sure of is that he is a real living god.
