You need to consistently meditate on your energies to keep them open, aligned, and healthy. A few minutes each day should be spent cleaning your chakra and aura. A few more minutes aligning and balancing them. If chakra are neglected after you open them, you put your energies at risk of closing again. You soul and your physical self have a lot more in common than most people think, like a physical muscle needs to be exercised or it becomes weak, the soul is the same. Consistent meditation and empowerment of your energies will help keep them healthy, active, and open.
As for the other question of how to balance your energies, there are a few meditations you can do. The mer ka ba is one meditation that is great for this. Another simple meditation you can do is the following: NOTE - your chakra should be properly opened and aligned before balancing them.
(Use visualization to help program your energy if needed)
1)Begin by cleaning your chakra and aura, follow this by aligning the chakra properly. The heart should be centered, focus on the energy and feel it. To align it properly feel energy pulsing from the heart filling the other energies and then returning to the heart center.
2)Start by meditating on your anju(6th) energy. Focus on it's violet color. Rotate the energy counter-clockwise.
Note: for this meditation the rotation is important. Don't worry about the speed of the rotation, just keep all the energies moving at the same pace.
3)Focus on the sacral energy, it is orange in color. Rotate the energy clockwise.
4)Feel your sacral and anju being attracted to each other. Now using visualization as a technique to program the energy; See a very thin but bright white/gold string placed at the energies. Feel the chakra balancing on this string and maintain the rotation. As the energy balance on this string feel them balance against each other as well. Do this until they are rotating in opposite but perfected harmony with each other. A good way to do this is to make the chakra do a single rotation at the very same pace, and then repeat this single rotation until the pace can be consistent.
5)Repeat steps 2-4 with the throat(sky blue), and solar plexus (yellow white)chakra. Do the throat first.
6)Repeat steps 2-4 with the Root(red), and crown (white/indigo) chakra. Do the root first. Sometimes you will have trouble rotating the crown, if you do have trouble visualize a white lotus flower with an indigo center sitting on top of you head. See this flower rotate instead. If you come to a state of dissociated confusion, or if you feel like your body is shrinking and your conscious flowing into a greater and greater space, this is indication that your crown is open and healthy.
7)Now it's time to balance the energies around the heart. First a little information though, the heart chakra works to bring harmony within your life forces, it allows the transfer of prana from the higher to the lower and vice versa. It is the connecting point for your subtle energies, and your life center.
Focus on your heart energy. Feel it's strength and energy. Focus on it's alignment, energy coming in, pulsating outwards into all the other energies both high and low, and then returning to the heart center.
Feel your other energies in balance with one another. Experience a harmony of energy within your subtle body.
Now let's first examine Ashur's Sigil,

Notice how there are two "arrows" coming together. This is a representation of balance in the soul. Use these "arrows" to help your visualization and balance in your own soul. See one arrow coming from above point down, and another coming from below pointing up. As you feel your energies balance see these arrows converging at the heart center. Hold the image of these converged arrows over you heart center, it will help energy flow between the higher and lower tiers of chakra and in turn balance your soul.
Visualize the string that has been balancing the others energies enter your heart from the top and bottom, meeting and becoming one at the center. The arrows should still be focused on.
8)Visualize the chakra breathing energy into the heart center, where the arrows converge. In the center of the arrows see the light from the chakra mixing together into a bright white.
9)Allow the heart energy to continue it's rotation, except this time use the white light to pulse outward and then back into the heart. As the energy enters the chakra see it empower them. Allow the chakra to breathe back into the heart center again forming a bright white light.
Continue to meditate on this.

In the power meditation section (beginner),opening chakras page, there
are instructions on what to do with each chakra. The third-eye is the
most extensive, with work to it being done for 4 days in a row. But on
the other pages it does not indicate how long one should work on the
rest of the chakras. Did I miss something? Help.
