Hi, my question is what would be the right thing to do?
Let's say a guy attacks you from behind and wants to fight you, even though you don't know him 😅

Should you avoid him and file a police report against him?

Or fight him?

What I mean is

I don't like it when I act like a coward

but it's better than the feeling of being hurt or hurting someone

You need to learn and practice situational awareness, and some form of self-defence like martial arts or just techniques.

About fighting, it's always best to avoid it. Even as an experienced martial artist, you don't know if someone is carrying a weapon or has others backing them up.

This means that if you have to run away from danger, there is no shame in doing so. Run and file the police report.

But you must know how to fight and defend yourself, and know how to read a situation... to determine whether a fight is inevitable and what options you have, you might have to strike first if the fight is inevitable. Striking first in imminent danger counts as self-defence and is legal in most countries, as long as you do not use excessive force.

Thanks for the reply.
I have filed a complaint and if it happens again the abuser will get a restraining order.

I will take what you said into consideration in these situations.

I watched those few seconds carefully and almost got hit.

I could see that his energy was quite high compared to mine (especially after a Friday night), which means he was basically waiting for the right moment to attack me.

and yes I should practice martial arts or something for self defense
