You are going the right route, just maybe a book is not necessary, unless you simply enjoy books, which is cool.  It's happening right in front of us.  A great example I was informed about was a Eastern European country (?) that had a factory which caused light grey powder to settle on the trees locally.
The local moths were of a mixed type, some black and some grey.  The trees were all grey and the birds picked the shit out of the the black ones {easy to spot}.  Now, after a few generations, only the grey ones remain.  Survival...  I may not have it perfectly (details), but I think I found a link for ya...

I just typed something that didn't send... *sigh*  I would check real-world events happening today.  Unless you just enjoy books, which is cool.
It was explained to me about an Eastern European country that had factories that produced a milky powder that covered trees.  A moth that was local was either grey or black actually after several generations of "bird abuse" LOL since the one type was easily spottable, just went away.  I think this may be the same story.
