In truth, it didn't claim credit for their work. ChatGPT just responds, based on user input and on the knowledge it "learns" from. Ask the same question again, in another instance, and the response will not be identical. If the teacher was using ChatGPT, he/she would have seen "ChatGPT can make mistakes. Check important info.".
