It's more like being a dirty mirror perpetually being swabbed by other things you cannot see, but then the Gods wipe the surface clean.

Yes, your soul is 'yours', but that does not mean it is not perpetually under influences you cannot see just because you reach a certain age or some other benchmark. This is a modern lie and conceit that stems from rampant individualism and obsession over autonomy (only relative to things seen and observable) that many times does not meaningfully exist.

I would like to wholeheartedly believe that performing three rituals will create an eternal bond with God. However, it seems that the connection only lasts while I am performing the rituals.

My connection with the gods is good. They won't take away your free will, nor will they stop the consequences of your actions or the influence of external factors. They won't imprison you in any way or prevent things from happening. You are completely free. The bond is merely the presence of the gods. When you ask for their intercession, it will not occur abruptly, nor will it prevent you from suffering. It's a form of moral support to help you grow and improve. At least, that is how I understand it.
