Familiar snake

I am considering getting a snake as a pet. Does anyone have experience with familiars? and what specific advantages can a snake offer in occultism?

If you feel attracted and want to. I would just say go for it, after considered everything what is necessary to know about having a snake. Did you read on Familiars on ToZ Main? Snakes are of mostly perceptive animals, they can see infrared and are very energy wise perceptive animals.

If you feel that call, you should definitely get a pet. Just make sure you do a ritual to the Gods and ask specifically for a familiar if that is what you want, because they have a different soul than regular animals, and you should read the familiars page if you haven't already, in order to know what to expect.

Regarding a pet snake, I feel the need to warn you that they need to be handled intentionally. That is because their dominant part of the brain is the part called "Reptilian brain" or "Basal ganglia" present in humans too, and it rules over instincts such as feeling hunger, movement, controls the heartbeat, intestines, etc.

Because of this in very rare cases snakes feel actual emotions or emotional bonds to other beings, even if at times it seems like they do. The domesticated ones let themselves be moved around because they do not feel a threat, but if they did, they would react. And they can not be trained, unless you're talking about training on being held, to allow you to kiss them without a reactive response, and so on.

That's why it is even more important to talk to the Gods prior to making this move, so they can guide you to a naturally more developed snake, because they are indeed able to feel basic emotions, even if it is rare.
