when creating an elemental thoughtform

i know they can me made of one or two elements, but am i right in thinking that you can't combine fire and water or earth and air?

The only answer that could make sense is this, You can use both elementals if you only keep and use the parts that do not oppose each other. In my opinion it would be harder making them from opposite elements but it IS possible.. just probably not as effective and more complex.
