This is what I have so far, and I suspect that it may not be factual.

However, “hydrargyrum” is a Latinized form of the Greek word “hydrargyros”, which means “water-silver”. The speed with which the substance floats across the surface of many materials as it moves, is very fast. The Roman God “Mercury” was known for his speed and mobility. It is associated with the planet Mercury; the astrological symbol for the planet is also one of the alchemical symbols for the metal; the Sanskrit word for alchemy is Rasavātam which means "the way of mercury" (Cox, 1997). Mercury is the only metal for which the alchemical planetary name became the common name (Stillman, 2003).
