Voodoo & Satanism

I've been told a lot about how Voodoo is Satanic, and I don't know what to make of this. I do know that when I was little I used to have a black Voodoo babysitter that claimed she was a Christian, which I suppose could be true since there are voodoo using Christians all over New Orleans. One thing I know about Voodoo is that in Haiti the slaves there freed themselves by asking Voodoo spirits to enter them, spirits of war, and they liberated themselves by killing the people enslaving them. I was just wondering if these spirits could be demons, angels or something completely different, and wanted to know if it was alright for someone to use Voodoo magic while being a Satanist.
