Hi. In addition to humanity’s original Gods, there are also spirits of various kinds, each with their own reasons for their actions. And the people you’re talking to might actually be in contact with such spirits, because our original Gods wouldn’t curse an entire bloodline just because someone wronged a person of color. Vodou is heavily reconstructed, made up of practices and beliefs of various African American slaves. It has ancient roots, but those roots lie in many different tribes that had various beliefs and practices, so it's a bit of a mishmash.
Perhaps some of the entities practitioners are in contact with are our Gods or lower Daimons, especially considering the names of many Lwa do draw from traditions like those of the Yoruba tribe, which did have a relationship with the eternal Gods.
However, for the most part, I'd say these are natural spirits, perhaps ancestors, perhaps elementals. There are many non-physical entities out there.
As for these traditions being dangerous to non-Black people, I'd say it's not exactly too far-fetched. Some practices out there can have various "protections" in place, so that only some people can perform them. Similarly to how some practices require direct initiation and will either not work or have negative effects if used by the profane. The actual mechanics behind any of these practices, however, are universal. Nothing any other spiritual system offers is missing from Zevism under one form or another.
