I'm about to start work on programming my aura for various things such as protections etc. I wanted to know whether I close my eye and see my aura around my body as If i was watching myself in a movie, or do I imagine the aura around me from a first person point of view??

Whatever you wish but first point of view seems to be general. I know one sister who does both. Just as long as you are aware you are prigramming your soul and aura :) It will be effective. Try not to program your aura for more than 2 things/goals. If you program your aura for more than 2 things your energy will get weak.If you are programming your aura for.two things then make sure you do one a few hours apart after meditation so your energy will be fresh and strong. Doing them after yoga is powerful.
