Before you summon a God, you need to be able to see and hear them so you can communicate with them, unless you plan on using a ouija board or pendulum. And, even then, you need to familiar enough with energy to use them. Make sure you have a reason for summoning them and a gift idea to offer in return for them as well. There is a ritual guide on JOS for the proper summoning technique. Can you use smelly candles or febreeze? Smelling good and clean is important. Sincerely,

well from what i understand based on what i have read on one subject you don't need candles and incense for all kinds of meditation.
i think some kinds you do but not all.
kinds you would need a candle at least would be flame meditation (info on that can easily be found on the jos site if you are thinking of trying that out sometime),
i will say though that i myself cant really see them yet either as from what i hear even if you open your 3rd eye you may not be able to see out of it right away.
just giving you the info on that in advance as this info on that is something you may find to be useful later on.
if you are dedicated but have not gotten into opening 3rd eye stuff yet then id say start on that ASAP.
