Hello Brothers and Sisters,
I am wondering if any of you can answer some questions about sleep that I have been wondering.
1. What is the best way to sleep? I have seen many different answers for this, but so far it seems that sleeping on the back is best. This may just be jew age BS though.
2. What is the best amount of sleep to get? I would assume that the best would be to sleep when the sun goes down, and rise when the sun does, but that is impossible in today's world.

Its true that you tend to sleep better in the dark (hence sunrise sundown)

And about position, to be honest, what you are comfortable with. Laying on the back could increase a better flow of air in your lungs though but that's all I can think about.

What I have noticed about sleep as I've had to deal a lot with extreme sleep deprivation in the past, is, the body has very good instincts on how much sleep it needs.

If you have the freedom to do so, the best thing is honestly to go to sleep when you feel drowsy and don't put an alarm. Your body will wake up on it's own after it has had enough sleep, or if other instincts take effect, for example your body will get hungry and you'll wake up when nutrition is needed.

If you get into a stable sleeping pattern your body will generally not sleep more than 8 hours unless you are excessivly tired due to other causes. When your Kundalini get's activated the need for sleep decreases and you can be fine with 4 hours or even less sleep a day.

When the body sleeps the soul also energizes itself. If you meditate your soul is more energizes thus the need for sleep decreases.

If you are often deprived of sleep, because of work or something else, your body will get progressively more tired and the health detriment caused by this becomes gradually worse and worse. It also has a detrimental effect on your mental health.

If you have the oppertunity to do so, try to go to sleep without putting an alarm sometime and see how long you sleep. When you are getting enough sleep you will wake up feeling energized and you'll generally be in a good mood, you won't have trouble getting out of bed because you are well rested and trying to stay in bed longer will feel uncomfortable because your body and mind don't need rest anymore at that time.
