I believe this is symbolism. We are in the underworld or used to be on earth before the downfall of humanity. The sun is the golden apple, and the moon is the red apple. By sung gazing you eat from the tree of life and by moon gazing you eat from the tree of knowledge. Both are required to enter the garden of Eden and live there with God.
