My GD has been teaching me a lot lately about selfishness, so I thought I would try and make a writing for everyone here about it.
Selfishness is the purest form of evil. Pretty much all "evil" acts can be attributed to one or many peoples selfish motives, interests, goals, etc. A rapist cares nothing for their victim, only their own satisfaction. A priest cares little for the well being of their followers, only their own admission to "heaven". Not only is selfishness an epidemic, it is rather unclear on how we should go about curing it.
If you were to call someone out on their selfishness, most would deny it immediately. The already blind masses are very far away from these realizations. It can be frustrating to be surrounded by them. The best thing one can do is work to be less selfish in oneself, while at the same time not giving up too much to the others who are still selfish. Others who would take from a giving person until there is nothing left.
Herein lies the main issue for those seeking the absolution of true selflessness. It seems very naive indeed to be a giving, selfless person in times such as these. Around every corner is a "user" waiting to take and take from these good people, until they are but a shell of their former selves. Because of this, many begin to see selflessness as a weakness. Who in their right mind would do such a thing? Allow themselves to be used by evil people?
God is selfish. This is one of his major attributes, as well as one that sets him clear apart from Satan.
The solution is to find others who are also selfless. Humans are meant to live for one another. They are meant to work together, to grow and create, not take and destroy.
Find others like you. Stay strong. Grow, create. Be happy. Do not hurt others, do not accept defeat. Have fun. But most of all, stop focusing on yourself. THIS is not about YOU. This is about US.
