Rosaries vs. dirty jokes

I just read a report where the pope sent DOWN "blessed" rosaries to the trapped miners in Chile, while the miners sent UP dirty jokes!

I'd love to think this was a small sign of the church's waning in a Latin American catholic country, but judging from what we saw on the outside, it doesn't seem so.

But maybe it does, the little crack in the dike so to speak ...
