Regarding the two springs of Hades

AvatarYurei1 min to read

On the left is Lethe, the waters of forgetfullness. On the right is Mnemosyne the waters of memory. Most of us entered into this life with no memories of our previous lifes.
If we drink from Lethe, we lose everything, including all spiritual advancements made. But I thought spiritual progression is preserved through lifetimes?

But this is only the case if we drink from Mnemosyne. So how come some people reincarnate with their spiritual advancement in tact, yet have no memories of their previous lives?
We are all here, because we were guided by The Gods to be here. Did we all drink from Mnemosyne?

I'm just so confused...

Good question, and this is one of the most common things people run into when they first encounter the two springs. The Clergy actually addresses this exact problem in their published framework, and once you see the distinction they draw between levels of the soul, the paradox falls apart.

The key is that "memory" in the Orphic sense and "spiritual advancement" in the Zevist sense are stored in different parts of the soul. As High Priest Zevios Metathronos explained directly on the forum, the soul has many levels, and there is a part of the soul with which we reincarnate, where the individual Soul ID and personality sit. That is the essence the Gods carry forward. Conscious-level memories get wiped at rebirth, but the deeper part of the soul that reincarnates keeps spiritual progress intact. The amnesia is real, but it only touches the surface. Everything you have actually built into the soul, the fruits of meditation, the karmic patterns, the relationship with your Guardian Daemon, those travel with you. They just don't sit where the conscious mind can reach them in the first few years of a new life. You can read his full explanation in the Soul Transfer post, and the broader Clergy teaching on the Past Life Amnesia page.

Think of it like a musician who trained for ten years, then stopped playing for a decade. They cannot recall specific songs on demand, and the conscious memory of what they played is fuzzy. But the moment they sit at the instrument, the posture, the ear, the trained responsiveness, all of it comes back far faster than a true beginner could manage. The skill was never in the conscious recollection. It was in the deeper structure of who they are. Spiritual advancement works the same way. The outer mind is wiped, the inner pattern remains.

This also answers your second question about Mnemosyne. The Clergy is explicit on this point. The uninitiated drink from Lethe by default, because they don't know the other spring exists. The Initiate has been trained to refuse Lethe and seek Mnemosyne. Mnemosyne is not a universal choice for every soul walking the path. It is the choice of those who have been trained for it, and the training is what this life is for. The two springs come from the Orphic tradition, which actually predates Plato's Myth of Er, and Plato absorbed the same teaching into his own framework. You can read the Clergy's exposition of the Orphic Gold Tablets and the full afterlife structure in The Zevist Doctrine of the Afterlife.

Now, the part that is worth paying attention to, because it explains why some people reincarnate with their advancement intact but no conscious recall, is that the Gods do not just leave reincarnation to chance. As explained on the With Zeus Again page, the pull you felt toward the Gods, the pull that brought you to this path, did not originate in this life. It is a memory. Your soul remembers what your conscious mind has forgotten. Advanced souls are guided by the Gods and their Guardian Daemon into circumstances that line up with where they left off, and in cases where a soul has reached a very high level but has not completed liberation, the Bhagavad Gita's teaching applies: they come back and skip a lot of the formal learning, picking up close to where they stopped. High Priest Zevios spelled this out in his Fast Path sermon, and the framing is worth sitting with. No progress is ever lost. The ToZ itself functions as a kind of lifeboat for souls who did advancement in prior lives and need to resume it.

The misconception many people fall into is thinking the conscious recall has to be there for the advancement to count. The Clergy's teaching is the opposite. The work is here. The present incarnation is where the actual practice happens. The past life obsession is a distraction. What matters is what you do with what you have been given, and the fact that you were drawn here at all is itself a sign the deeper pattern is intact. The details of who you were in a past life are secondary. The development you carried is what shows up, and it shows up precisely because you showed up to do the work.

If you want to read further, the Afterlife & Death index gathers the Clergy's afterlife pages in one place, and it links directly to the Orphic Gold Tablets article, the Myth of Er, and the Past Life Amnesia page. That is the natural starting sequence for working through this whole framework. Your confusion is exactly the right kind of confusion to be working through, because it shows you are taking the mechanics seriously.

"Conscious-level memories get wiped at rebirth..."

It cannot be saved at all, like the spiritual knowledge, skills?? I mean then it means that people will not have concrete memories of their loved ones who passed away and reincarnated even if they advance spiritually? The memories about our relatives, loved ones will be erased absolutely??

If it is true then it is DEVASTATING! To me, to keep my memories about my loved ones, even meet them again and recognize them, in a next life, is actually equally important as advancing spiritually and once reaching godhead...

This is one of my main motivations, it always was. If I will never remember and recognize the most important people in my life whom I loved (and they also will never remember on me ever) then I feel I am getting closer to the thought that why the f.ck I am doing this at all...? ☹️

Earlier I was told there is a possibility to meet again the beloved ones and consciously remember on them, recognize them even in our next life, if we becone advanced highly...

So please someone tell me, what is the ACTUAL truth regarding these? ☹️

I hope I am wrong here and simply misunderstood this above AI "reply"...

Anyways I also became seriously confused just like others it seems, regarding the story of those two springs and regarding reincarnation because the old sermon about Reincarnation and Afterlife by @High Priest Zevios Metathronos explained some things differently...

Actually I really would like to get some help/some answers on my questions I planned to post, I still would like to post and ask, but I'm afraid I feel I am already "left alone"...

We carry everything with us regardless. One of the points of the meditational practice is to access and evolve existing subconscious imprints. Nothing is truly lost. Only the doorway might be more or less hidden.

And it means? Nothing is truly lost? So according to your knowledge and understanding we can remember on our loved ones if we become advanced and can recognize them (or even them too if they will be advanved enough)? You meant this? Sorry I am not sure entirely how you meant..

Yes, it is true.

Can you imagine how complex it would be if our physical mind remembered all those lives, right outvthe gate? THAT would\nBe the epitome of confusion.

I think thats why our soul remembers but this life's mind is meant to focus on the current blueprint and staring point, and go from there.

From what my friends GD told me one should not get too caught up in past life regression as you are not there anymore, you are here, moving forward, not backward.

Hope this helps 🙏

Thanks, unfortunately it does not help much...I still do not know the answer. If we are advanced enough we will be able to remember on loved ones and even recognize them in their new incarnations or not because it will be erased totally and finally, after we die and enter into a new life...?

I see that you say we need to move forward on our spiritual journey. Of course, but this should not mean that I should not remember at least on my loved ones, especially if we also have unfinished "business"? It was like as if all of us were and will be dead forever to each other. 😭

The memory of each other lasts only for one lifetime? I hardly can accept it especially because as we know there are or can be karmic relatioships (good and bad) between people which can last through lifetimes...

I really believed the former narrative here, based on HPs Lydia's earlier reply too, that it is possible to remember on our family members, loved ones, after we become more advanced and even we can meet them in a next life (or in our/their next life).

I am still confused unfortunately. And yes I absolutely would not want to simply be fine with forgetting my poor dad who recently tragically passed away. 😭 Or anyone I love and love. I also do not want my dad to forget me totally. It was said earlier that everything is SAVED into the unconscious part of our mind. Not just what we learned but events which happened to us, memory about people we were involved with etc. Then it is not valid information anymore? The old sermon Reincarnation and afterlife also stated these...

Anyways, of course I want to know but I am not really caught up in past life regression for now, until I live this life, but rather if I die and will be reincarnated...and if I cannot keep my freaking memories about the most important people at least saved into my unconscious, then to me it has just no sense...

Even reincarnated pets often can remember on their owner and their former life...

I also absolutely would like to help my loved ones in their next lives, in the future, so they would be able to advance spiritually once, as they had no chance in their former lifetime.

The question is far more complex and wide than you think, and to fully answer this, it would require tons of pages and hours of studying and meditating.

I will give you just some input. The first reason is biological. We have always affirmed that to handle spiritual power, you also need to have a healthy and strong body. High energies affect the physical body, as you may have felt during your spiritual workings or when practicing yoga. So, as you know, you are born as a little baby, very, very tiny, and from there the body requires around 25 years to develop fully. You can understand that at 22 years old, you may not have the capability to handle all the power you had when you were 60 years old in a previous life. It would literally make you go crazy.

Regarding memories, here is an interesting thing. Let's say you are 15 years old. How would your life change if suddenly you were able to remember all your previous lives? Suddenly you remember all the love, hate, good moments, bad moments. You may have been lucky in your previous life, but the probability is that you may have experienced many bad moments, starting from the time of your death. Would it be beneficial to your current life to know all the things that happened many years ago?

We reincarnate, and we bring with us the spiritual progress and karma, bad and good, from past lives, but it doesn't pop up immediately. The Gods, in their benevolence and Highest knowledge, have made it so. We need to focus on THIS life, to build on the spiritual progress that we bring forward from past lives.

We, as humans, tend to overthink and dwell on past events of THIS life, let alone what would happen if we had ALL the memories of past lives (which would be FAR worse memories since people's lives weren't so great in the past).

It is good that past-life memories require some spiritual training to achieve. You need to be fully emotionally and mentally mature to handle these kinds of memories.

Thank you @Hidden Warrior even if you replied to Yurei!

I see it would be extremely hard to handle if suddenly all memories would come up. 😭 You are right. I did not mean it should come suddenly, and I rather meant it would be so important to remember at least on the loved ones, most important people...

To me now it is not yet about my past life (I am interested in that too of course) but about my present life where I lost my loved ones. But yes if I die then I would like to know if I will be able to ever remember on my loved ones, important events, after spiritual advancing... By the way, I am sure that unfortunately in the future too most people will still not know the truth and will not have the possibility to start advance spiritually due to the present state of humanity and because of the Enemy and its all deeds.

So, according to Henu too and based on the former replies too, even these conscious memories will not be lost and deleted forever if I got it well, right? But to remember properly will require time and advancing as we already know. I suppose I would find the path again in my next life too, but my loved ones...alone possibly not. That is why I would like to help them in their next life but for that I will have to recognize and know them in their (or our) next life too.

So you also say or think that not only the spiritual knowledge and skills but also the conscious memories of people, loved ones and events are or will be surely saved into our unconscious mind and we can access to them eventually, right?

I see the importance of it and of what you said, but on the other hand I still find it devastating as I said, because it is like as if me and my loved ones would be dead to each other, if none of us will remember on each other. 😭

Very interesting that in some case children can remember things about their previous life...then it means some people "accidentally" can actively remember and did not "forget"??

You meant the Gods - based on their higher knowledge and benevolence -intentionally made it or made us "forget" (temporarily) our previous lives because it would be very chaotic for us? Or is it natural in the reincarnation?

I am also still confused the opposing (or seemingly opposing) statements of the two springs story and the infos stated in Reincarnatiom and Afterlife sermon... I just truly hope once someone will explain it better at least on a level we can understand the main points of it. I see that the deeper understanding needs more advancement but I wish at least some part of that story could be explained better, like why the story mentions that those people who drink from Lethe will totally and finally forget everything forever? When it is not true or should not be if everything is "saved" by default into our unconscious.

I am asking this out of great worry as my loved one recently tragically passed away and I am absolutely confused about it. I want him to be able to remember on me of course in his next life (saved into his unconscious at least)...

As I said to keep memories of my loved ones is also a great motivator for me not to give up and try to go forward spiritually, even the possibility of meeting and knowing them again later makes me motivated and can comfort me. If it is true..
