Question on a certain astrological symbol

Hey guys, I had taken a look at my natal chart after studying Azazel's Astrology Index on JoS. There's a few planets that are important, but there is one symbol on my chart that isn't listed in the index. It looks like a key facing to the right and on the site that one of the links lead to (indigoray) states that it's called Chiron. The small problem is that I have no idea what Chiron represents and it happens to be positioned on a pretty impacting degree. The only info they say about Chiron is that it's this and that, but it doesn't inform anything about what it represents within someone's chart.
Does anyone know what it is or what it determines in someone's personality?

Chiron is an asteroid, a small rock orbitating that is much smaller than a Planet.
HP Maxine said in the past she does not consider Chiron as a planet, so I always disregard it while looking at charts.

Ah, alright; thanks. But since it isn't a planet, would it mean that it doesn't have much importance in my chart? I mean, like I said, it's 4 degrees and JoS lists that 4 degrees of the sign it is in gives special importance to the planets occupying the degree. In my case, it's Chiron, which is why I would like to know what it symbolizes.

I am sorry I cannot help more than this as I never deepend Chiron studies for these reasons; as it's astrological importance is weak, I believe that even if it's on the 4th degree of a Sign it can be neglected in the Chart your are reading.
