Qi gong and Neidan in Zevism

Arngeirr91 min to read

I wish my fellow Zevists well and prosperity. I’ve added qigong to my usual meditation routine and have begun studying Daoist practices and theory in general. During this time, some questions have arisen that I haven’t been able to find answers to on our resources:

1. Is the “embryonic breathing” technique legitimate? I’ve noticed that it helps me perform visualization meditations better (especially energy circulation). This is because basic yogic breathing “throws me off” when the air moves from my abdomen to the upper lungs.

2. The rule of “closing” after techniques—or more precisely, directing “qi” to the middle dantian (solar plexus chakra)—in which cases should this be used? For example, if I finish circulation at the crown chakra, do I need to direct the energy to the third chakra?

3. I’ve started practicing sets such as the “Eight Pieces of Brocade” and the “Five Animals,” as well as simple movements to sense energy. Perhaps someone practices moving meditations and knows of other similar sets that have been proven effective in practice. I’d be happy if you’d share!

4. Also, if anyone has experience with this topic in general, please share. I’m very interested!

Heil Zeus!🙏

  1. Embryonic breathing works on the generative powers of the Qi, improving flow between the Middle Triangle and the lower Triangle. It shouldn't necessarily directly correlate with improving visualization, but it does have great benefits. If you plan to use it longterm, look into practices for the other Triangles, like Nei Guan and Hui Guang (these are beginner friendly and fall just fine within the Zevist framework) to balance things out.

  1. I don't have direct experience with this, so I can't speak of its efficacy. End your practice with the grounding techniques on the ToZ instead.
In terms of the rest, I'd be careful about experimenting too much, as what we have in the ToZ is bigger than ever and very effective, as well as held to very high standards of scrutiny in terms of whether it works, what it does and how, whereas random practices you research online are not as well verified and tested.
Ask in Vultus Templorum as well, for various specific things, and try to only stick to beginner-level practices in other systems, as well as things that you can easily connect to the Zevist framework and understand from its perspective (a lot of various practices are just variations on what we already have).

Thank you for your reply. As you suggested, I'm focusing on ToZ meditations. I decided to add Qigong for some variety in my physical exercises🙏
