There is no religion of Hinduism. The word Hindu is a Persian word for the people dwelling in the area of the Hindu Kush which was East of them.
The term the people(Aryans) of that area used for their religion was Santana Dharma. The land in those times was not called India but Arya Varsha. They also might have called it Vedaism.
Today what is called Hinduism is a potluck of different beliefs, mixed cultures and races and everything inbetween. The whole area has degenernated over time.
Originally the religion of the Aryans the Santana Dharma centered on worship of the Deva(i)'s(Devil comes from this word) upholding of the Dharma or in English the laws of nature and of the "Great Perfection" which was the Magnum Opus. Arya Varsha was ruled by the Naga's or Serpent Priests who where said to be headed by a council of Siddha's.
The Deva's where what our ancestors called Satan and the Demons in those times. It means the shining ones.
We can call this also the Vedic religion.
Brahma was not the supreme god then. Brahma was the name of the force or prana which was envoked/invoked during rituals it's the five elements. Hence Om as the Brahma formula it makes up the 5 elements.
A major part of this Vedic religion was worship of Siva(Satan) and offering of Soma and the ritual fire. Which is alchemical in nature. Up till some where around 1000bc.
Over time something happened to this society and it became xanitized infact by that time the Priest caste calling itself the Brahmins where the first catholic church. Corruption became rife and a new christianized religion centered on the newly created Gita and it's slave morality became the ruling norm.
This as Rosenberg and others mention displays a major upheaval in the culture of this time. The reasons for this are speculated. But given the nature of the time and what this new religion did. It shows it's the enemies move. They removed much spiritual knowledge from society. And made it a crime to practice or have this knowledge originally under this system the word Yogin had the same meaning as Heretic or Witch did under the catholic church.
Spirituality under this system become the same life hating dreck the catholic church pushed as spirituality.
This is where we get the split and the rise of "Tantra" LHP and the RHP. Tantra means treatise in the area of spiritual matters. Tantra also is used because of this as a term to denote the LHP.
A Tantra in Western thought would be called a Grimoire.
To come to a point from study the Tantric way in original form it has also been subverted over time. But in the original form was inreality the original religon of Arya Varsha. And parts of it still do surive in Tantra Yoga thought and action.
