Number of Petals

Greetings
  This one question has been at the back of my mind for a long time. Was afraid to ask as i did not want to ask a question what most people consider stupid. As my class teacher would always tells us the dumbest(silliest or most stupid)  questions sre the ones never asked.
   I have read about chakras being described as having certain number of petals. The crown chakras is a 1000 petal lotus. The 6th Chakra has 2 petals , the Throat Chakra has 16 petals. My questions what is the significance of the petals to the chakras and how do we use it in meditation.Thanx in advance .

I won't be able to answer your question, but I just wanted to say that the only bad questions are dishonest questions. People who don't want to be questioned are almost always never trust worthy or knowledgeable in the first place.
