Newbie question

Yesterday I performed an evocation. I had a conversation with said spirit, and they agreed to my task. Would it be inadvisable to add my own personal magic to aid in the resolution of the working, or would that be considered offensive? I simply want to reinforce, and of course, do what I can to achieve my desired outcome. That way I'm not being lazy and having someone do something for me, only aid me in the result.
