need help in figuring out something

i looked up in jos but there is no detailed instructions only outline about how to use a pendulum to find your demon guardian ,i never done it so i would appreciate it to have something or someone that would literally walk hand by hand on correctly using it ,also i have a silver chain can i use it as a pendulum or do i  need some kind of special stone .
