I (male) have been looking into aphrodisiacs recently, and I would like to try one out. Currently, I have my eyes on something called "Tongkat Ali Extract", which is said to be a natural way increase sex drive and even general energy and hormonal balance.
What is your opinion on this? And most importantly, do you know a good place to buy this (I'm from Europe - for the shipping costs)? I am willing to spend more money on it, but if there is a rather cheap alternative thats not unhealthy I would prefer that, since I just want to try out this whole aphrodisiac thing.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Are you trying aphrodisiacs because you feel your sex drive is diminished in some way?

Or just for kicks?

Most aphrodisiacs are powerful yang tonics, and taking them unnecessarily can and will throw your body out of balance by a long way.

It is best, if you are just looking for kicks, to eat only the foods which promote sexual desire, such as oysters than to take the strong medicinal herbs which you will end up having to take other herbs to fix the problems they eventually create.

I want to try them out because I want to see how it feels like. Also, I forgot to clarify this. The stuff I'm looking for are purely natural plants who grow in africa and are taken by the people there (as far as I know). Taking them doesn't create imbalances as long as they are 100% natural and not full with additional bullshit (which is why I asked where to buy one from).
A little quote:"Tongkat ali is a South East Asian herb that grows in the jungles of Malaysia, Thailand & Indonesia. It is commonly known as tongkat ali, Tung Saw & Pasak Bumi, depending on which country you are in (respectively). It is also known to some as herbal viagra, but we’ll get into that a little bit later. For centuries, this root has been used by natives as a potent aphrodisac, a health tonic and energy enhancer."In case I am missing something important, and this really would be a bad thing to take regularely, let me throw in two alternatives I would like to buy instead:Maca"Maca, which grows in South America, has been used since the time of the Inca’s to ignite desire, support your hormonal balance & even boost energy and vigor. Unlike tongkat ali extract, it does not boost your testosterone, just your desire."
Ashwagandha"This is one of the oldest and best natural remedies for increasing not only sex drive, but sexual performance and enjoyment. An added benefit (a huge one) is that it works extremely well for women as well, so you can share this with your partner. Ashwagandha works on many different mechanisms for sex drive and performance."

Lastly, I know that working with the sacral chakra can help with this. I just want to try out how it is to take an aphrodisac like this, so there really is no alternative besides, well, taking one.

Besides the ones mentioned above, see Ginseng and Horny Goat Weed. I have tried the first one and if the quality is good, it works. Ginseng also gives you energy and helps with concentration amongst many other things. I have never tried Horny Goat Weed myself but I heard and read about it.
And by the way, there are 3 types of Maca. To my knowledge not all 3 are aphrodisiacs. I have tried the yellow maca and it is.   – Thomas

People have this misconception that just because something is natural and herbal, it will not cause imbalances. Aphrodisiac herbs are not general tonics. They are specifically tonics for a particular imbalance namely deficiency of Kidney Yang.

Kidney Yang arises from the ming men or life gate which resides between the kidneys... The sacral chakra.

Toying around with this just to see is like summoning a Demon for kicks, or giving yourself surgery when you don't need it, and any properly trained herbalist will tell you the same thing.

Taking it once or twice may not harm you as badly but it's likely to be an addictive feeling which you will chase and the results of it can and will be disastrous on your health.

To my knowledge, Maca is a very mild aphrodisiac, whilst Ashwaghanda, Ginseng and Horny Goat Weed are very strong Yang tonics and these are likely to do the most harm.

Ultimately though you are responsible for your choices, and can do whatever you like. But failing to heed the advice of those you have asked for help, at your own peril is done.

I'm really thankful for your concern. I will make sure to limit the use of these (and immediately stop in case I experience negative effects). Since you said that maca is a mild aphrodisac, I bought 25g raw maca powder here:  https://s24.postimg.org/rxzoxpfh1/20170128_102943.pngI will try it out with 1.5g for the first time (please tell me if this is too much - I don't know how much would be recommended) and then see how I will proceed.Again thanks to everybody for your help.

On a lesser extent, you can also see Patchouli, Clary Sage and Myrtle essential oils (Myrtle was associated with Goddess Aphrodite), Cinnamon, Ginger and Cloves. I've got these in my house as part of my huge collection of herbalist products. Their effects are not as strong.
But nonetheless you should take into account what ivyissexy69 said as s/he's definitely got a point!  – Thomas

I will try those out aswell, thanks :) By the way, I have been taking maca daily ever since your post and have yet to experience negative effects. In fact, my health improved since I started taking it. Though I will stay careful nonetheless and stop if negative effects occur.

Again, Maca is very mild and the least likely to produce harm although taking it regularly for a very long time may produce some undesired results such as increased overall body tenperature, restlessness and agitation, thirst, broken and difficult sleep, constipation, heart palpitations, increased appetite and further long term chronic effects include night sweating, loss of appetite despite great hunger, soreness of the lower back, heat of the hands and chest, afternoon fevers, dizziness, dry eyes and a multitude of other things.

I would expect that the above symptoms might not manifest for some time, but continual usage and intake of Maca of a period of say 2-3 years is guaranteed to produce such results.
