i was wondering i am better able to meditate and focus when i lay down is it less effective doing meditating laying down?

No it's not less effective, sometimes it can even be more effective. The only problem is people sometimes become tire and fall asleep in this position. Also you aren't able to vibrate mantra and mudra signs are not as easy laying down opposed to sitting in lotus position.

Vibration travels easiest through solid matter. if you're trying to vibrate a rune or a mantra or whatever to your base chakra and your laying down, it could be harder for you to feel it. because you're body is in contact with another object.
