Fall Equinox, September 22. Sun enters Libra. (This will be Ostara, Spring Equinox, for those in the southern hemisphere.)

This is the original Pagan festival of Thanksgiving, the second of the three harvest festivals. This is a good time to begin things.

This day is the balance between light and dark, as the day and night are equal length. Traditionally, this is the day of the great hunt. Symbols of Mabon include apples, acorns, the stag, scarecrows, baskets (gathering of crops), sickles and scythes.

Traditional foods for this festival include apples, squash and other earthy vegetables, cranberries and pomegranates, seeds and nuts, any wild meat such as venison, stews, mushrooms. Really hearty, earthy foods. This is meant to be a true feast, acknowledging the bounty of the Earth and preparing for winter.

This was also the day that honored all Gods and Goddesses of the Hunt.

we really should make some of our own art like that :)

I agree, Taol. I'll be doing the notices for all of our pagan holidays cuz why not. I admit that I don't observe many myself, so this will help at least some people take note. So if anyone wants to make and send me any art that depicts each holiday that would be awesome :)

Thanks for posting this Lydia. I have a question what kind of magickal workings are good to begin on Mabon? It says here that it's a good time to begin things so I thought a magickal working would be good but which one? I read on a few websites that Mabon is a festival of letting go but I'm not sure. Gosh autumn and winter is my favorite time of the year :D

hehe maybe I'll make one myself. When I have the inspiration and such to do so.

Right now there is something else I should finish working on.
Although it'd require some study on what each holiday is about. I know the next one up is Samhain. But I have no idea how to celebrate that properly. I do recall a year or 2-3 ago I felt being stared at during the night though at that time. Very odd.

I wouldn't recommend anything to do with Solar energy as the Sun is in detriment in Libra, but anything like a new hobby or 40-day working. Moon is in Gemini though so things can change. Maybe a working for change? Perthro rune, if there's something in your life that needs t be changed, from negative to positive. Just an example.
