I always thought the base chakra was slightly above the perineum and there was another energy center there.

Does this mean the above is referring to the back extension base chakra?

The Base chakra is the extension of the root chakra. Located at the base of the spine.

This is confusing understandbly. It means, "take it to your perineum, where the base chakra is located" Or "Take it to your perineum aka the base chakra.

The path should be front Sacral extension, base, rear sacral extension, and so forth.

What Syt R said is also correct. Its a matter of terminology. I refer to the 'root chakra' as the base chakra, as it is refered to mostly throughout JoS. There are some points where this can get confusing.

The base chakra has a front and rear extension. The front being at the root of the penis for men, or clitoris for women. The rear extension being at the tailbone, the base of the spine.

Take a read through this for reference, you don't have to do the meditations. Simply reading through it to understand some of the locations of the chakra extensions.

I understand this now, thank you. I have another question though, regarding the first step of the preparation meditations for the MO.

"For the Magnum Opus, the energy must return to and be stored in the sacral (2nd) chakra. This completes one circuit."

I know this may seem like a stupid question to ask but I just want to be 100% clear with the instructions. Is Maxine referring to the front extension of the sacral chakra or the central sacral chakra itself? From my understanding it should be at the front extension because that is what the language that is used implies 'return to, completes one circuit'. But then yet again she could have meant 'return to the sacral chakra and be stored in the central sacral chakra', which would also make sense as that is where the male elixir is secreted.

It should be returned to and stored in the Sacral Chakra, that is the center and NOT the front extension. This will the be used later on, as is explained further in step three.
