I would like to mention something of very troubling nature from the history of my country. I live in the Czech Republic. Before it was the Czechoslovakia, created in 1918 after World War I.
In 1942 two soldiers trained in Great Britan killed Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, who was in charge of Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia after occupation of the Czechoslovakia which began in 1938 with german annexation of northern and western border regions of Czechoslovakia.
In reprisal for the assassination of Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich in the late spring of 1942, all 173 men over 15 years of age from the village Lidice were executed on 10 June 1942. Another 11 men who were not in the village were arrested and executed soon afterwards, along with several others already under arrest. The 184 women and 88 children were deported to concentration camps; a few children considered racially suitable for Germanisation were handed over to SS families and the rest were sent to the Chełmno extermination camp.
The village was then set on fire and the remains of the buildings destroyed with explosives. All the animals in the village—pets and beasts of burden—were slaughtered as well. Even those buried in the town cemetery were not spared; their remains were dug up, looted for gold fillings, jewellery and destroyed.
So as you can see, for me personally, from the Czech Republic, as descendant of the bloodline of Czechoslovakians, it is very difficult to praise Third Reich for what they did in Lidice. There is no question they massacred and burned the village, it is well documented moment of history of my people.
Even without this incident alone, there was an occupation of my country and a lot of very sad moments happened during that time.
