If you know enough about the "afterlife" and what it really is and isn't, then you can see where this "compassion" nonsense is going:

Barnes is not angry with the men who beat him. He goes so far as to say, “If they took their coats off, they’d probably have wings underneath them.” 
Calling his attackers angels is something Barnes said it is hard for many people to understand. But he is grateful to them (they were never caught and he doesn’t know who they are), because the experience changed him profoundly for the better."

This is so fucked up. This man is better of dead at this point.. 
Saying he is grateful to the people that nearly killed him. 

It's just disgusting to no end. 

The enemy nordics are seriously fucked up. One has to wonder how in the world they ended up like such filthy disgusting beings.
