Greetings! I used to play video games in that same manner. While its true that playing games isn't productive in an obvious sense, they can sure enhance your problem solving, pattern recognition, and reflexes and hand dexterity. A well designed game can also educate and influence mass crowds of people the same way a book or movie can. Regardless, it can be overwhelmingly time consuming and I congratulate you wanting to stop playing games.
My suggestion would be, when the inclination arrives to play the game, find a good place to meditate on what exactly you crave. The overall impulse is "play X game", but look deeper and try to find exactly what it is that you desire from playing that game(s). I would suggest that most of the time its a form of escapism, so perhaps meditate on things you try to avoid thinking about. These are the shadow thoughts most people have tucked away, and many times our personalities are like layers of behavior that were placed on top of those 'shameful' thoughts so that they appear hidden, though they are still observable to discerning eyes (see occultist). When you acknowledge these hidden, shadow thoughts, it is an intense experience, often uncomfortable, people can often shed tears or cry just by finding those thoughts. But its also a release, your head will feel less knotted up, and you will become more aware of yourself and also more aware of others as you can detect there inner struggles better when you truly confront your own. This is a small, step-by-step process. There's no 0 to 100 real quick ritual, because humans couldn't handle that much change without snapping. Grow, its a slow process.
I find meditation helps by acknowledging and honoring a spirit without asking them for anything. Just sit with them, enjoying existence, and they will guide your thoughts. My personal choice as of late is Astaroth. Remember to show humility and respect with these spirits at first, you are a disciple, show discipline.
Think like the ancients, friend, the modern world is blind.
