Herbalism and Pesticides

I have two questions. Please bare with me.
My first question is I want to study Medical Herbalism. I am not sure where to go or what to look up. There are not many books in the library that speak about herbalism. Its mainly books that classify herbs but not speak of their effects. Does anyone have any booksor websites I can study from and look at?

The second question is what is a good, natural pesticide and fungus killer? I have a peach tree growing in my backyard that has been eaten by bugs and has a fungus growing on it. Does anyone know a natural way to deal with this? (sorry if it seems off topic from the health group.)

Oh also, what happened to the leaves of your peach tree? Do they curl up?

I have read on peach trees recently and it was said that there is a disease that they can get which makes the leaves curl and they can die from it.


Also, against the lice that suck the sugar from the leaves (and several other types of lice) you could try making nettle gier; that is.. you take a lot of nettles, yes the stingy ones, and put it on water in a pot (closed). You put that away for 2 weeks (but you could use it after about 3 days if its really urgent but it wouldn't be that strong). And then you fill a spray bottle with it and spray the tree.

Another thing you can try would be the spongy green soap in water with spiritus. Now this might not be great for the plants. You could have to feed them a bit of compost (but do not give them a lot, certainly NOT trees, those could die if you put too much earth at the base of them) and depending on how long they stand there they need minerals. So make some herbal teas (different ones) and after cooling down give them that as water.

Another thing you can try, is look up what it is plagued with and order their natural predators. Now this is more expensive, but it can take a lot of time for natural predators to form, since they grow and mature slower than the parasites.


One more thing.. is the tree dry or is it soaking wet ground?
Now I haven't answered your question about fungus. Simply because I don't know.


ehm.. it was also mentioned that peach trees after some 10+ years probably need to be replaced.

Pesticides are under no circumstance used with herbs since you need to be able to digest them safely.
There is one that is 'natural' that is called pyrethrum. Its made from a grysant (some plant) but it kills EVERYTHING. So also the good organisms in the soil.

If you look for a decent herb book you have to count for some as much as over 100 euro.  There are a few websites out there that do show some of the information about a herb but does not totally describe what it is used for.

You could try looking for some german websites (word heilpflanzen), this is what I found so far:
Achillea millefolium L.   
This is a very short description on it.


For so far as books go, I am sorry that I can not tell you any. The one I use for my education is only in dutch/flemish, and that could be inconvenient.

If you want to study medical herbalism, the best option would be to see if there are places in your area (country) where you can study it, sometimes its put under different words. Different schools have different ways of going on about things. So when you find some, make a visit, ask questions, get to know as much as you can.
You do not have to expect to find something close by your house, I didn't find anything either.

What does occur in what I learn is the anatomy of the body and pathology. How the body functions. So basicly biology.

Search engines. fyto therapy, herbalism, sometimes you can even find a few things when you type in folk healing studies or something. Be creative. And good luck.

When it comes to herbalism, it is a worthy study. There are basic herbal remedies that usually have no effects on a person and then there are herbs that have complex components and must be used sparingly and with caution. Also, you must consider taking herbs when taking medication and pharmaceuticals.
There are herbs that do not work in harmony and herbs that act in synergy and as a catalyst.
You can find many books online that are good for beginners and address the basic remedies. If you want to get into serious herbalism, you may want to do schooling for that but in this current world schooling can be expensive and unfeasible.
if you do not have the means or funds to do intensive training, you can do the nest best thing by asking the gods to guide you to really good reading material online and books. You can study each herb and plant individually and learn their chemical components and medicinal uses.
I enjoy herbalism as well. I have invested in self study for years and cured many problems with herbs alone.
I especially enjoy herbs that act as natural antibiotics which are very important these days.
I wrote an article some months ago on herbs that act as antibiotics.
You can ask about plants and botany here on the health group as they are interconnected.
As for your peach tree:
When did the disease begin?What is the soil quality and consistency like?Have you used any chemicals on it at all?What do the bugs look like?

A great remedy for getting rid of pests on plants and animals is Diatomaceous earth. It is a natural substance that are fossilized aquatic organisms called Diatoms. It is also wonderful for human consumption but you must use food grade diatomaceous earth. Just put it on the leaves and anywhere the bugs are and it will immediately dry up and kill the pests.
It is inexpensive.
As for fungicide, cinnamon is natural one and a mix of water and baking soda works well.
Disease begins when the body is thrown off balance. In this case, your peach tree may be suffering from poor soil quality and other stressors, then the pests came.
You can also heal your tree spiritually. I have done this in the past with good results. If you have the time, go up to your tree and place your hands on it. Use your mind and aura to correct the energy centers and imbalances in the tree. Program it's aura to use the sun as a healer.
Trees are alive and have awareness and just like any other living thing, wants to survive and live. The same techniques for healing a human can be applied. Please update us on your tree.
From my experience, plants are usually easier to heal than animals and humans.

If you can not find nettles you could try buying tea and then just making very strong tea (multiple bags, not just 2) and let that sit for the required time.
Also about the soap and spiritus, I do not know what it'd do on other insects than lice.


Just saying in case you couldn't think it'd be possible, you CAN give satanic healing to plants.

I hope this helped a little. I still have to learn quite a bit on this, but if we all know a bit then we could find it out together.

Wow, I know this is about herbalism and agriculture, but I couldn't help but think if that is what happens to plants which suffer from nutrient deficiency, imagine how bad it is in our bodies.

The leaves and plants were literally 3 or 4 times smaller and paler than healthy leaves and healthy plants. 
If that same margin applies to humans, or atleast to an extend, that means our bodies function atleast 3 or 4 times worse than normal with only one nutrient deficiency. 

No wonder people are so unhealthy and sick these days.. 

I have a question on topic though, does soil remineralize itself if left alone, or should you try to remineralize it using fertilizer and such? What about a green house, is it possible for soil in a small controlled environment such as a green house to keep itself mineral rich? 

I currently don't have the ability to start gardening or to grow my own produce, but when I am able to buy my own property I am definitly looking to get a large garden so I can atleast grow some vegetables and fruits myself.

Thanks for all the responses. I just saw them. The peach tree has a black fungus that is very common in the south. It was growing on the branches and eating the peaches themselves. Small insects, light green bugs, fat body, six to eight legs and look alomost like a stink bug, were munching on the leaves. The tree has excellent soil quality. The soil here is filled with nutrients, perfect for a peach tree. I keep an eye on the soil as I have roses. Roses are very problematic when the soil becomes unhealthy. HP Shannon, I used the cinnamon water mixture and the fungus left however the bugs still come and go. Got any other mixtures for bugs?
As for the study of herbalism, the schools around here are Jewish owned or extremely expensive. I have been looking for books but it is really hard to find a reliable book. I picked up a chemistry book and started looking through it. Hopefully it gives me some answers.

The world acts in a cycle. The soil can eventually remineralize itself but with our help. What you take from the soil must be returned in some way.
To answer your question, it is best to remineralize your soil especially if you are taking out from it and not returning anything such as food scraps and other unused plant material.

As far as I know, diatomaceous earth is almost instant and works best effectively. If you cannot get that because of finances, you can use a soapy water solution or a hose to spray the bugs off. if they keep coming then there is some kind of imbalance and something they are attracted too.
I'll see if I can update you with some info on natural bug repellents.

I've wondered about the fertilizer, what kind do you use? and is it like animal poo or ? what is it made of basicly.
I don't know much about fertilizer.

The kind of fertilizer I use is compost which is an organic matter. Compost can be composed of manures and humus(decayed plant or animal material). I also use minerals from rock dust. Azomite powder is actually one of the best mineral powders around. It is composed of a huge variety of minerals needed for plants and they are healthy, grows faster and taller. This also effects the chemical makeup of the plant. This is desirable
Organic matter, microbiota in the soil and minerals are a primer for soil and plant health

When I post my second article on soil health and ecology, I'll post some more info on that.
