Seeing it is Samhain it seemed like a grand time to share an image of my portrait of Satan. Sorry this isn't professionally shot yet.
Satan, Acrylic on canvas, gold leaf, 36”X45”.
The sumerian cuneiform in white on the steps is a quote from The Al Jilwah: I was, am now, and shall have no end. In Satan's poem III he says: I am who creates in the wombs as I like. This to me is about genetic engineering which led to the DNA strands, also the shape of them remind me of rising serpents. They are similar in form to the caduceus. So its the human soul achieving the risen serpent, and thus to the magnum opus. Satanama, cycle of life, death and rebirth, becoming as a God. Thats what I was trying to communicate there. He looks to his left (left hand path). HP Maxine D said He rarely appears with wings so I tried to merely suggest them, lightly sketched in. She said his aura is gold. I did white and gold. I was given a palette of red and black with a touch of white for the throne, colors of the three major nadis of the human soul. Ida, black, pingala, red, sushumna, white. That electric blue seemed really appropriate to me too though. Blue demonic energy. The rich red of the steps is also referencing the blood or seed of Satan that we, his children share with Him. The throne when I drew it shaped itself. It's in the shape of a pyramid with the top off, symbolizing the uncompleted work on us Satan meant to do. Everything in there has a reason. Theres a reference to the Qu'ret al – Yezid: there is no god but myself, Archangel over all the host, Melek Taus (peacock god). The lightning bolts are obvious. He is wearing an Egyptian collar with ravens. The universe is under him, referencing once again the Al Jilwah: There is no place in the universe that knows not my presence. The earths sky is above as he is King of this earth. The belt of Orion is depicted to reference His origin system.
I had three other Gods in mind for this portrait but one morning after sitting up late sketching them out I woke with a laundry list of new symbols and specific colours in my head that I had to use and an image of what to do. It felt like an imperative. Satan had stepped in (I guess) and basically communicated you are doing ME next! And so that's how this portrait came about and the thought behind it. It took a long time because I was crazy determined to get it as perfect as I could, and also because of the interference that began around the same time, things that began raising barriers, trying to keep me from the work. To prevent me from completing it I assume. But it finally got done! I do hope I did him proud! Happy Samhain, Father!
Hail Satan!
