General questions about the Planetary Squares

So just to clarify my thoughts:

1. I can start a square in any sign as long as it isn't in it's detriment/fall and is on an ideal day and hour?

I recall someone in the Astrology groups telling us to start the Sun square when it entered Scorpio to help offset any Saturn energies.

2. The Jupiter square is the only acceptable square to do when it's in retrograde, right?

I don't know about the Sun, but to respond to your other questions, as long as I've understood everything right (xD) yes, you are correct.
