Greetings brothers and sisters! Because it’s October already and we’re getting close to Halloween and Día de Muertos, I drew Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec god of the underworld. According to tradition, he sprinkles cempasuchil (marigold) flowers to guide deceased souls. I haven’t seen many modern drawings of him, so I based my work off of the Mesoamerican codex ‘the Borgia codex.’ There’s still a lot of misinformation about the meaning of the regalia, the symbolism, ex. If anyone knows more about him, I’d love to hear it! I’m not sure how to upload images directly, so here’s a link:
