First. Yes, the enemy can control animals and even people's minds. When I first started meditating, esp. after performing the MerKaBa meditation to the point that the field became permanent, I started noticing that attacks were happening more frequently. I would see people staring at me with bizarre looks. Situations kept happening that tried to prevent me from mediating. I would hear animals screech and bark. I would have dreams where being would attack me. One attack almost killed me, but I asked for help from the Gods and they helped me.
The enemy can control animals and sometimes people. Keep up your aura of protection and cleanse yourself daily, and spiritually empower yourself. In my case, they kept trying to get me to stop working on myself spiritually, but when they found out I would not quit no matter how much they attacked me, the attacks ceased.
In response to your animal request, yes, though, personally I do not think that is what is happening. I have found through experience that animals do notice our energy fields, at least most of them, and react to them. For instance, as I began meditating and empowering myself, Crows and Hawks kept coming around me, and making bird sounds at me. They still come around my house. Also, my grand parents cat, did not come around me until I began mediating. It seems she likes the increased energy field and feels safe around me because I have an empowered energy field. What I think is happening in your case, is that the birds are being attracted to you during your spiritual work, in this case, warfare. The particular energies that you use in the warfare may interest them, the birds.
However, it could be that the enemy is trying to scare you. What I recommend is experiment. Try using the same energies you use in the warfare, or experiment with different energies and methods, and see when and when not the birds come.
What it seems to me, is that many Ancient Cultures placed significance on animals because of them being attracted to or being a suitable vehicle for certain energies.
