I believe all material goals are spiritual goals but all spiritual goals are material goals. Love is a material goal, you cannot show affection without utilizing physical/material things, they make love more pleasurable. It also involves a positive and powerful synchronization/connection of your soul with another's for a physical manifestation of the emotion. I would use both the spiritual and material square.

Reciting the mantra any more times than is required for one version of the square will ruin the working, requiring you to restart.
There was an answer another gave me that since the spiritual acts to inevitably attract qualities which you can act to embody with physical application, that a spiritual square may well do the job.

I think the spiritual and material energies of a planet are of different polarity. The mantras are streamlining different energies of the same planet, there is good reason the mantras have different endings.
On JoS, in reference to the spiritual square of Venus, the following is stated:

Yes, if you vibrate the mantra any more or any less times than it's required to do in a day, this will ruin your working and you'll have to restart it all over again.

Just a note to the obvious. The Venus spiritual square would empower your throat chakra so it would make you more favorable in communication with women/men. Venus also rules over the women in a mans chart so doing a spiritual square might help.
A Venus square for material would attract a love partner when properly affirmed and directed I believe.
So if you think about it, either one would help in affairs with women in my opinion.
