Martin County sheriff’s deputies Friday charged three 19-year-old men with burglary of nine churches in the Port Salerno and Hobe Sound areas, according to a news release.
Marjorie Alexander, a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Hobe Sound, one church the trio is thought to have burglarized, said the church sustained several thousands of dollars in damages and the only money stolen was $12 in coins.
“If they are the ones who did this, it is comforting to know we don’t have to worry about that group,” Alexander said. “The only thing that is aggravating is that they did this to a church. A church is here to help people.”
