Brief question about black candles

Do they need to be made of black wax? Or would covering a white candle in black soot work?

Black wax is ideal. If you don't have access to black candles, then dark blue candles work just as fine.

i myself thoguht about jsut painting the candles black if that would work cause some actuly seep into the wax
