While doing the breathing exercises, I should sit in a meditative position, or can I lie down? I find it easier to do them while lying. While sitting it is harder/not comforable. Is it just me? and can I do them while lying?

Yes you can do them laying. It doesnt matter, and can be helpful for meditations where you need your spine straight.

Sitting is better because if you lie down your likely to fall asleep being as relaxed as one should be while meditating.
If sitting is uncomfortable then make adjustments so it is comfortable.
Find a good chair or a cushion.

When you lay down your spine is not always straight, it bends somewhere near your rib cage

For me that or meditating while laying down usually makes me tired.  So just remember laying down does not work best with everyone and in my opinion is not the best method for certain things.

It seems like this needs to be adressed, as many of these answers, while in the right mind, are incorrect.

Firstly, when you say 'meditative position', there is no proper 'meditative position' as such. You can sit in a comfy chair, or sit with your legs crossed and back straight, you can lie down, the point is whatever is most comfortable for you, and what works best. When I first began Meditating, I found lying down was best, but then eventually I changed to sitting up cross legged with my back straight.
As others have mentioned, one is more likely to fall asleep lying down.
Idealy, sitting up with your spine straight is best, as this is best for the flow of energy up your spine. But comfort is also a big factor, and it can be troublesome getting into a deep trance if you're constantly moving and fidgiting to get comfy.

As for the breathing exercises, do as it says.

"1. Sit with your spine straight, you may also stand if you wish "

Sitting with a straight spine and proper posture helps to open up the air ways and makes breathing a lot easier. Keep this in mind.

If it says to sit with a straight back, do that. It is good practice.
You can lie down whilst you meditate, but be wary of falling asleep, this is something you mostly want to avoid during meditation.

I never fall asleep when I'm on my back, no matter how tired I am.
Also, Maxine wrote in the complete yogic breath :
"Sit with your spine straight, you may also stand if you wish"
Therefore I think it's a bit of importance?

By the way I will never fall asleep while lying on my back, no matter how I'm tired. Also it takes me alot of time to fall asleep generally.
Thank you for your comment!

Hello Everyone,

I have a question on the basic breathing exercises. In the introduction there is mention of doing up to 108 rounds on some of the exercises, when one is proficient. However, there are some of the individual exercises where they say to do 5 or 10 rounds, is that for starting only, or do all eventually go to 108?

Since I know this is a life long thing, I'm not worried about reaching a specific goal within a time frame, but I would like to know where proficient people are at.

A second question is that near the end of my basic breathing exercises during the time when you sit still for 10-15 minutes, my feet get a tight hot feeling. Is this normal, or am I pushing myself too much? Normally when I'm doing them, I never become out of breath or stressed, I think i even stop a little early, so I don't know what the hot feet are.

Hail Satan!

Try doing it at a lesser repetition, and then try to sense the energy it produced. Then the next rep, a bit higher, and sense the energy. See what feels correct. Don't do anything too high though, set a limit.

Everyone senses energy differently, so you'll have to try to figure out where things fall.
