An account on "selling one's soul"

So, I recalled this account I read in the Satanic Bible back when I was 16, about this man who "sold his soul":

"At the time of the Reformation, in the Sixteenth Century, the alchemist, Dr. Johann Faustus, discovered a method of summoning a demon - Mephistopheles - from Hell and making a pact with him. He signed a contract in blood to turn his soul over to Mephistopheles in return for the feeling of youth, and at once became young. When the time came for Faustus to die, he retired to his room and was blown to bits as though his laboratory had exploded. This story is a protest of the times (the Sixteenth Century) against science, chemistry, and magic."

This same Dr. Johann Faustus and this Mephistopheles being are mentioned on the JoS page on Making A Commitment To Satan

I don't follow Anton LaVey's teachings, nor do I believe that "selling your soul" thing.
But I'm curious as to what really happened here.

I don't know if that has ever been covered in the groups in the past, but does anyone know the real facts behind this particular story? Like the real identity of this Mephistopheles being, etc or if all this even happened at all, for that matter?
That would be interesting to know.

Well, Mephistopheles is with our Father. Note: Mephistopheles is NOT
Satan himself, as some claim, but he is a Daemon on Satan' and on our
side. As to whether Faustus himself was a real person or not, that I
do not know.

Thank you for your answer Allison.

Since there is no information about Mephistopheles on the Demons section (maybe he didn't want it included), I didn't know anything about him.

From what I googled, this Dr. Faustus seems to have been a real alchemist. But if that story of his "turning his soul over to Mephistopheles" is even real, maybe he is likely to have been deceived by an angel passing off as Mephistopheles huh?

I know Sims, and as I stated I do not follow Anton LaVey's teachings. I used to read the Satanic Bible before, but then I found the JoS and knew the truth about this book. It's been 3 years now since I dedicated.
But just like the xian bible, there are some truths mixed up with lies in the Satanic Bible, and also allegories and such.
This story says this Dr Faustus person "sold his soul" to Mephistopheles.Since Mephistopheles is with Satan as Allison stated, this can't be true.So I was wondering what's the truth about it. If this man has been deceived by an enemy entity passing off as Mephistopheles, or if this account has all been made up by xians to scare and manipulate people. Or any other possibilities.
