Must they all be done. The first breath is similar to the alternate nostril breath. But anyway must they all be done? I'm more attracted to the last 3.

About the ten tibetan breaths
Shan8231 min to read
Maybe, because they seem to build upon eachother. The first IS alternate nostril breathing, it's used to balance the energies before doing the others. I've been doing all of them in order, they don't take more than 30 mins anyway.

I do the Kapalabhati (breath of fire), ten tibetan breaths, the five tibetans, the kundalini yoga on the JOS, and the basic spinal energy series. Afterwards I can feel my kundalini vibrating like mad.

Same here but instead of the breath of fire I do the Cobra Breath. Add it to your meditation program and watch where your kundalini goes :)

It's basically an advanced version of the first breathing exercise on JoS. There are different variations of the cobra breath, some are here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JoyofSata ... sage/25831
and it normally costs thousands of dollars to get it because it's "extra secret" and thye have you swear you'll not tell anyone.

Must they all be done. The first breath is similar to the alternate nostril breath. But anyway must they all be done? I'm more attracted to the last 3.
If I recall that system has seven different levels of this Cobra breath. The breath or fire or skull polishing is good but can be used as a step up to the Bellow's breath [Bhastrika] which is designed to punch thought the knots and send a higher powerful in doing so, working towards rising the power fully. I find these two get confused.

Same here but instead of the breath of fire I do the Cobra Breath. Add it to your meditation program and watch where your kundalini goes :)

Hey Brian, see HP Don's response on this thread. If one wants to raise the kundalini he should do the bhastrika breath intstead, it's similar to the breath of fire but its emphasis is on the depth, you take deep breaths as fast as possible and you also focus on the "explosion" of air when exhaling. It creates lot of intense heat.

Thanks firestarter I will look in to it too.But I have done the breath of fire for months now and it for sure builds up the energy. But I will take your advice for added benefit too.

The major power of the bellow's breath as all pranayama is in the retention. The bellow's is a advanced version of the skull polishing breath. Your striking the breath with the banda action its not about speed more then the actions And how this works with retention. The images in the west of this from the woodcuts illustrate its dynamic perfectly in my opinion This leads into the basic's of the corba breaths.
