Mercury went retrograde last month, and it was retrograde up until about August 11th if I'm not mistaken. Most of you know what this means, all things related to Mercury are somewhat affected. You can read the Astrology section for more info. One thing I may add is that if Mercury is one of your Chart rulers, when Mercury goes retrograde, you may notice your logical mind not working as good as usual. The site mentions that people born with Mercury Retrograde may benefit during this period, and I guess it's true, but people born with Mercury direct (especially if Mercury is a ruler!) may find more trouble than usual with concentration, logical thinking, problem-solving and so on. This is what I've personally noticed.
One thing to note is that about 2-3 weeks before Mercury goes retrograde, its movement starts slowing down more and more, until it becomes stationary for a brief period and then goes Retro. So when then it becomes direct again, it doesn't go to full speed immediately. It actually takes weeks, about 20 days or more I think. Mercury went direct in August 11th, but if you take a look at its movement in the first days after it did, it moved extremely slowly. Then it gained more and more speed. Today it's August 25th, and it still isn't going to full speed yet.
Why do I point this out? Because I do believe that the 'Mercury Retrograde effects' are not only active when Mercury is retrograde, but are present, even if on a smaller scale, in the weeks when it slows down before going retrograde, and in the weeks when it 'picks up speed' after going direct again.
So, one shouldn't expect immediate changes the day Mercury goes direct, but rather one should wait until Mercury is back at its highest speed to see all Mercury related affairs flowing exactly as they should.
This is only a theory of mine, but I've noticed that this also goes for the Void of Course. With these Astrological processes, I do believe that things are more gradual and slow, rather than immediate. So I don't think that the minute before the VoC begins the energies are a certain way, and then the next minute when the VoC begins the energies have drastically and immediately changed. I think the process is a bit more gradual and slower. So (if I have to begin a project, spell etc.) I personally prefer to wait about an hour when it comes to VoC, as I believe that 'VoC type effects' are still active on a smaller scale one hour before VoC begins and one hour after it ends. Again, this is just my theory based on my own personal experience, take it as such.
Going back to the Retrograde issue, taking another planet, Mars, I'd personally wait that this planet goes back at its full speed, before initiating any black magick work or curse, because I believe that when these planets are still moving slowly, they 'emanate' similar frequencies as when they were Retrograde, even if on a smaller scale.
About Astrology (but also Spirituality) in general, my advice to you is to have a very inquisitive and curious approach. I'm very convinced that we still ignore many things about a lot of issues. Do not think for a second that 'everything is already known'. I myself, by looking at countless Charts, have discovered multiple things that I've never read anywhere, and they make perfect sense. In the past Astrologers had to wait days and weeks to cast a single Chart (make all the calculations etc), these days we can do it in half a second, and therefore we can discover so much more. Well, actually, you would only re-discover these things many times, as these were most likely known by High Priests in the Golden Age, but were lost over the centuries.
One great Astrologer that comes to mind is A. Volguine. This man was a true genius, trailblazer and he's the reason we know what we know about predictive Astrology in large part (imo). During his times Astrologers discarded Solar Revolutions as mostly useless, but he was different, he didn't put limits on himself and he decided to have the attitude of a seeker. This is the attitdue of a Spiritual person, seeking truth at all times.
Develop your theories and your hypotheses, and then test them. See if you were right or not. Keep yourself open to the Gods' guidance in this sense, you will be astounded at the amount of new ideas and knowledge coming your way.
Don't have the attitude of 'who am I to discover something new?', it's a terrible attitude. Imagine if Tesla, Da Vinci, Newton, Volguine, Lady Maxine and so many others had this attitude. There is an infinity of knowledge that was lost, and each one of you can re-discover at least a piece of it.
Lastly, as far as predictive Astrology is concerned, Volguine's books are an excellent start.
