I have to attend and possibly testify in an upcoming custody trial of my daughter's. She is divorcing her husband and is trying to get custody of her 2 daughters. She loves me very much but has always dissapproved to a point my love of Satan and told her husband about my beliefs early in their marriage when she thought he was someone she could trust.
Her husband's lawyer is very clever and I know he will ask if I am a Satan worshipper and, even though it hurts me, I am going to have to say no. But it's because I am not, in the traditional sense. I don't hold Black Mass with a naked girl on the altar, I don't kill animals and I don't live as a criminal which is how MOST people view Satanism. So I don't think that I'm doing anything wrong here. The lawyers questions will have to be answered in straight yes and no responses. So I can't say "Yes, I'm a SPIRITUAL Satanist not LaVeyan."
Please give me any input you can on this.

a question about an upcoming trial
i didnt think religion should ever get to be brought up in trial. In fact it says somewhere ( dont know where but i have heard about it) that religion has no place in trial. There is suppose to be a separation between church and state.
This is only my opinion.

First of all an attorneys questions never have to be answered with a simple yes or no, the way you respond is to clarify the answer first and then say yes or no. Example:
Attorney: "Is it true that you are a Satan Worshipper"
You: "There are many inaccuracies, misunderstandings, false information and flat out lies about my spiritual journey. Most of what people think about my spiritual path is wrong and very few people ever even make an attempt at learning the truth, we are a law abiding peaceful group who has a deep belief in who we know to be the creator of this world. Most people know nothing of what it is to be a spiritual Satanist "
The point here is that you answered the question but only after you explained the answer. In order to prepare for this trial you may want to work with another attorney to learn how to answer a question, or if you have a college or university in your area that has a speech communications department (especially if they have a debate team) they also should have someone who can help you prepare for the trial.

Would "Define Satanism" as an answer to such a question be a bad move? he/she would then, perhaps pose hise/her vision of it, then it would be safe to state "no", because, 99% says the will define it in a too xian-ly inappropriate way.
