While I haven't lived with my parents for some time, my mom is having trouble with me being a Spiritual Satanist (even though she has known for some time). In one of her emails to me, trying to explain why xtianity is good, I wrote this reply in hopes to open her eyes. I thought I would share it here.
Mom,
Who says I don't have peace of mind? I have gone through a lot and seen many things. I haven't got to where I am overnight. I've ( as I told you before) have had a lot of things both good and bad happen to me (more than you think you know) and know things to be different than what is taught in christianized religions. I have studied and questioned this from as far back as I can remember and I am perfectly happy to be where I am. If you are worried about this, a good place to start is http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com Even though the guy who put all of this together is an atheist (I am not), he put together one of the most complete compilations of the bible and related filth that I know of. Of course you will have to take the time to read and you cannot expect to learn a lifetime of information in just a few minutes or from only one source,so this would only be a good start. You seem to forget about where I come from. I have studied the bible extensively and didn't come to be where I am "willie nillie". I have seen "visions" both good and bad apparently like you. This is where having knowledge and experiences can come in hand. Having no or little knowledge can make you think or see things the wrong way. With you being a judge, you used to have to listen to all evidence presented and make decisions based on what YOU knew at the time. Criminals always seem to try to appear good when they are not. You cannot be biased just because others want you to look at one side. You have to look at all sides. This also applies to every day life. Learning and gaining experience is a life-long venture. At one time in this country, almost everyone believed in slavery and that it was necessary and acceptable. People didn't question it or if they did, they were too afraid to say anything. Then pressures built for decades until a war broke out-the Civil War, which did end slavery, but had so many casualties it took years to rebuild. Wars can also be internal and they have to be dealt with before a "war" breaks out whithin. christianity is the only religion that I know of that bans research. In Europe during the dark ages, there was no human advancement. Once people began to question the churches, the dark ages ended. Technology advanced and humanity benefited. To know how something truly is, all you have to do is give it power. This happened during the dark ages and the inquisition period. Today one would never sign a contract with an individual without reading it, going off of solely what the "salesman" says. Yet that is what most christians do every day with the bible. Even though most preachers will not tell you about the evil jehova does in the bible on a Sunday school class, ( I believe every one of them is spelled out for you in the above link), those written teachings are there. Some might try to candy-coat them with whipped cream, yet they are still there. Don't go off what examples your "Aunt Fanny" for all her life uses. She may appear wonderful and truly want to be and do good, but as in the salesman/contract example, it is what is in writing that really matters. That is where the truth can be found. "Aunt Fanny" just wanted to be good and went with what the "masses" thought to be good without doing her own research. In the end she had good intentions but her foundation wasn't there. And as for what the "masses" think is good, slavery should have taught us an important lesson. That is why so many christians are in mental hospitals. They are torn from wanting to do good, but are bombarded by fears and teachings put into their minds that are conflicting. If I can find it again, I can show you the name of a mental hospital so full of christians at one time (jehovah's whitnesses) that it was called the watchtower.
I like where I am and the path that I am on. If you don't like how I am that is your concern, not mine. I know you have had your experiences and you make your choices as I do mine. You need to make sure your happy where YOU are and not because that is where OTHERS expect you to be. So I would appreciate it for you to not lecture me anymore on this matter.
Love,
