What do things like his day, his planet, his colors mean to the gods? Is it something like what they like?

These are energetic expressions and I don't think these are symbologies based on a matter of likeness. In understanding and perceiving the world, everything expresses a certain unique and distinctive energetic characteristic. For example, the energies of Venus are quite different from those of Pluto, and certain gods have energies that are akin to venusian energies, while others to plutonian energies. Same with colors; each color has a distinct energetic signature and is characterized by a certain type of energy.

The Base Chakra's color is Red. This does not mean that the base Chakra is a physical object that is red in color because of its pigmentation, but rather that it is aligned with this.

Gods do have an identity, and a personality, and a uniqueness, as there is diversity among them. While they are much greater than we are, which may make them all seem so much bigger than these concepts (they are far beyond just the influence of one planet, for example), they do relate to these things similarly to how you and I do.

The color, planet, material etc. are symbolic and allegorical concepts they are associated with. To explain all of them to oneself is a journey by itself.

It is fine to not understand it at first, I personally don't understand a lot of their correspondences, and I can meditate just fine, talk to them just fine, advance just fine and so on.
Not everything needs to be instantly answered.
